In a world out of balance, we are all looking for solutions that can lead to:

 * Effective ways of growing healthy, organic food in urban environments
 * Regenerative farming that can both feed a family, earn an income and build soil fertility
 * Retrofitting techniques for existing houses or property that results in lower energy costs and  better health for its inhabitants
 * Intelligent, thoughtful design principles to build sustainable lives, and sustainable communities in a world of Peak Everything

You will learn how to apply pro-active, sustainable design techniques to your immediate environment - whether you live in a small apartment, a quarter-acre block, or a rural property.

Covering organic food production, system design (and re-design) for comfort and lower energy consumption, and ideas on how to approach a sustainable and positive community existence within your neighborhood.

Permaculture principles, like any really good design principles, can be applied across any biosphere, any property, any landscape, any city. Permaculture is a network of well-grounded theories and techniques that, over time, result in sustainable and productive systems.

Systems for living, architecture, food production, land management and community. No chemicals and no excuses. Just good, thoughtful, innovative and effective design for the needs of our species.

This course of practical strategies to better care and provide for yourself, your family and the planet. Class Description:

We are living on a planet in crisis; often individuals feel powerless to effect change but Permaculture offers positive solutions to the problems facing the world; using ecology as the basis for designing integrated systems of food production, housing, technology and community development, you can learn to create a self-sustaining environment, on a farm or in your urban backyard or apartment.

The Permaculture Design Course is for anyone interested in gaining skills and perspective for sustainable living and productivity. A Permaculture Design Course is a way to share accumulated information with others.

This Introduction to Permaculture Class is an outline of the science and art of Permaculture. It will define the term and its history, its founders the curriculum of the design course certificate, its ethics and foundations. It will describe the benefits and show some of the most important work undertaken by permaculture designers.

Definition:

"Permaculture"

Permaculture is a design system which emulates natural patterns, combining ancient wisdoms with scientific knowledge to form a set of ethics and principles for creating sustainable culture.

Topics include: maximizing food production with small scale intensive growing, integrating animals, catching and conserving water, conserving and building soil, natural building, appropriate technology, alternative energy, waste system design, local trade systems and designing self-maintaining landscapes.

It is the perfect system to aid us into the transition to the energy descent society of the future, that is typified by scarce and expensive fossil fuel energy.
